Registration is now open for our Spring 2021 online Czech and Slovak classes for ADULTS.
The classes are open to anyone in NC – motivated teenagers are certainly welcome to attend.
Please register as soon as possible as there are only 12 spots per class. If a class fills up, the registration form will show that a specific class is already full.

- Mondays 6:45 PM - 7:45 PM or 8:00 PM - 9:00PM (students will be assigned into a group)
- First class Monday Feb 1, 2021
- Instructor: Alena Fry
- Textbook: Čeština expres 1 / Czech Express 1 (we can provide for $15, as compared to $43 on Amazon)
- Each class to last 60 mins
- 15 weeks; one class per week; classes meet each week except for Presidents' Day (Feb 1, 8, 22, Mar 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Apr 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17; NO CLASS on Presidents' Day - Feb 15)
- Classes meet via Zoom (link will be provided upon registration)

- 15 weeks; one class per week
- Each class to last 60 mins
- Textbook: Čeština expres 2 / Czech Express 2 (we can provide for $15, as compared to $41 on Amazon)

- Textbook: Krížom-krážom - Slovenčina A1 (we can provide for $15, as compared to $50 on Martinus - $24 textbook + $25 shipping)
- Each class to last 60 mins
- 15 weeks; one class per week; classes meet each week (Feb 2, 9, 16, 23, Mar 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Apr 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11)
- Classes meet via Zoom (link will be provided upon registration)

Instructors:
Dominika Turner (SLOVAK classes) – Dominika is from Oravska Jasenica, a small village in northern Slovakia. She received her MA degree in accounting and auditing from the University of Economics in Bratislava. Dominika is a certified real estate agent currently serving as a property manager with T Realty and Management. Dominika has experience teaching English to preschool children in Slovakia and she is a proud mother of two bilingual children. Dominika has served as an instructor at the Czech and Slovak School of NC since 2015; first in the lower elementary class and during the past two years in the class for adults.
Alena Fry (CZECH Beginner classes) – Alena grew up in a small village on the outskirts of Prague. She holds degrees in Czech Language & Literature and Translation Studies from Charles University in Prague. In 2011, she moved to the United States with her husband, Chris, and has since lived in South Dakota, California, and Illinois. Alena is passionate about translation and teaching. She has translated several books of fiction and non-fiction from English into Czech and has experience conducting Czech classes for foreigners as well as courses in translation. Most recently, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Czech at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea. She loves nature, hiking, and traveling, and welcomes every opportunity to visit her family in the Czech Republic. Alena is currently residing again on the Dakotan prairie and is excited to be joining the team at the Czech and Slovak School of NC virtually this fall.
Pavel Kopecký (CZECH Intermediate class) – Mgr. Pavel Kopecký grew up in the historical town of Litoměřice in North Bohemia. He loves Czech culture and history since his childhood. He studied history at Palacky University in Olomouc and then political science at Masaryk University in Brno. Since then, he has been teaching these subjects at several universities, as well as teaching Czech as a foreign language. He also has many years of experience in the private teaching of his mother language. Pavel currently lives in the Czech capital of Praha (Prague), although his plan is to relocate to the United States with his American girlfriend, to continue his studies, and to work there as teacher.
Mirka Budlong (SLOVAK Beginner classes) – Mirka is from Hlohovec, a city located in the southern part of Slovakia. She graduated with her MA in Education with emphasis on PE from Univerzita Konštantína Filozofa v Nitre (Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra). After her studies, she moved to San Diego, CA where she became an elementary and middle school PE teacher. Mirka’s teaching experiences range from an early childhood education to high school setting. She joined the Czech and Slovak School of NC in 2018 to teach the lower elementary class and this year, she will also serve as the instructor of the Slovak adult class. Mirka is also a certified CrossFit coach who enjoys hiking and nature.
