Marta McCabe - Founder & President

Marta works as an instructor of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at Durham Technical Community College and a Research Associate at the School of Education at Charles University in Prague. Marta’s research focuses mainly on language learning among children of immigrants in the United States and the Czech Republic. Born in Prague, she has lived in Durham, NC for the past 10 years and has three children.

Petr Vasicko - Treasurer

Petr is the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic for North and South Carolina. Professionally, Petr is the founder of Eternity Real Estate Group, which was created to help the international communities with their real estate needs of all shapes and sizes. He has three children and lives in Charlotte, NC.

Elizabeth Michalka - Media & Public Relations 

Elizabeth is a first generation American with a Slovak and Czech background. She has been the primary organizer of the Triangle Area Czech & Slovak Meetup Group for multiple years. She grew up in North Carolina and graduated from The University of North Carolina with a degree in journalism. She has more than 10 years of experience in communications and marketing, and is currently the Marketing Content Manager at Caktus Group in Durham, NC. She previously worked at Duke University. Kate Kucera

Kate is a scientist, hockey mom, teacher of the upper elementary class and serves on the board of directors. Kate grew up in Děčín, Czech Republic in a small house with a big yard full of vegetable beds and fruit trees. A daughter of two teachers, she has always been close to children and education. She studied at Střední Pedagogická Škola in Ústí nad Labem and at Charles University in Prague. She moved to the United States in 1998 and married a third-generation Czech-American with a last name more Czech than her own. She holds a degree in Genetics & Genomics from Duke University and works for a biotech startup company that develops precision medicine technologies and analytics. Kate, her husband Jon, and two sons live in Chapel Hill.

Lída Cope

Larry Savage

Lida teaches applied linguistics in the English Department at East Carolina University and runs the Texas Czech Legacy Project hosted at the University of Texas at Austin; heritage language education is one of her interests. She is Czech, born and raised around Prostějov in Moravia. She lives with her husband and two boys in Winterville, NC
Marek Kasprisin

Marek was born and raised in Presov, Slovakia. He received his MBA at the University of Presov, Faculty of Management. Marek and his wife Lenka have two children, who have attended the Czech and Slovak School. In 2015, he helped to create the school’s website. Marek currently works at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business as an IT Analyst. 
​Larry has been a language teacher since beginning his career teaching English at a University in the Czech Republic.  He currently serves as the Principal at Siler City Elementary School, which has a dual language program building students' English and Spanish skills.
